U.S. News and World Report is out with its latest rankings of high schools around the country, and placing the highest in Southwest Michigan is Bridgman High School.
The publication ranked Bridgman 15th in the state, moving it up from 22nd in last year’s list. When ranking schools, it considers things like advanced placement participation and proficiency in math, science, and reading.
Bridgman Public Schools Superintendent Shane Peters tells us this is a “high accolade” for the district.
“I think when you look at our graduation rate, which has always been 97 % or higher, I think that our staff, K-12, prepare our kids for college, and then just that relationship piece and that support structure that we have in place,” Peters said.
Peters says the good scores don’t just reflect on the high school, but also on the team that prepares students for the high school. He says Bridgman is a destination for both students and educators.
“We have a lot of kids that take AP classes. You continue to look at our SAT scores, and they continue to be the best in the county, above state average, and by double -digit marks. We are a small school with big school opportunities.”
Peters says the whole community is proud of the high ranking and that it will only prompt the district to strive for even better.
Out of Southwest Michigan schools, New Buffalo High School comes next in the rankings, placing at 34 in the state. Next is St. Joseph at 53, followed by Edwardsburg at 93, Lakeshore at 95, and Mattawan at number 100 in the state.
