There’s an update to a fundraising campaign on this 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Ironwood based Stormy Kromer released a specialty cap in honor of the Fitzgerald last month with proceeds to go toward the establishment of an historical marker in the ship’s last port of call. CEO Gina Thorsen says the caps flew off the shelves and helped raise nearly $13,000.
“Sold out of at the inventory we had in about two and a half days, and honestly based on the numbers that we had available, I thought we had plenty to let this run for several weeks with the plan, and we were completely overwhelmed with the best response,” Thorsen said.
The Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior in 1975 and the historical marker will be erected in Superior, Wisconsin.
