Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition hosting 5K next month

The Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition will hold its second annual 5K Run and Walk next month, and it’s inviting the whole community to come and help make a difference.

Coalition Chair Brittany Frenchko tells us they had about 160 runners for last year’s event, and they’re hoping for even more this year. The “STAY; Your Story’s Not Over” 5K will be held September 20 in Baroda, taking participants from the American Legion Hall, all around the village, and then back to the hall.

The regular run walk will start at nine, and obviously signups and all that prior to that,” Frenchko said. “We will again have resource tables from different community partners. And then we will also have signs for participants or anybody that attends the event to make a donation, and they can personalize that sign and put it along the route.”

Those signs can be used to memorialize someone who’s been lost or to spread a message about mental health.

Frenchko says the Run and Walk is just another way the Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition has been getting out into the community to make its message known.

Between the 988 signs that you see in the community, being present at the Senior Expo, different church communities and things like that, I definitely think we’re we’re resonating.”

Frenchko says all proceeds from the 5K will go to support the mission of the Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition. You can sign up for the run and walk right here.
