The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy says wildfire smoke is once again affecting air quality across the state this summer, with conditions rivaling 2023.
EGLE’s Air Quality Division has launched a new webpage with resources on how the agency responds to smoke events, how residents can track conditions, and how to participate in data collection with home sensors.
In 2025 so far, EGLE has issued 27 air quality advisories and four alerts. Advisories are issued when pollution levels are expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, while alerts mean conditions are unhealthy or worse for the general public.
In 2023, Michigan experienced 31 alerts during a summerlong smoke event.
