A homicide case from last October in Van Buren County has been resolved, with the suspect found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Van Buren County Prosecutor Jay Blair says a court issued the ruling for 23-year-old Aidan White on June 16. White had been charged in November with open murder and home invasion after his mother, 55-year-old Gloria White, was found dead in her Sister Lakes home on October 31.

According to Sheriff Dan Abbott, Aidan White broke into the home while his mother was on the phone with 911 dispatchers pleading for help. Abbott said parts of the assault could be heard on the call as White forced his way inside.

White was initially deemed competent to stand trial but later underwent further evaluation that found he was legally insane at the time of the killing, Blair said. When the court accepted that determination, the charges against him were dropped.

As of Tuesday, White has been admitted to the Center for Forensic Psychiatry for a 60-day mental health evaluation. Once complete, the Van Buren County Probate Court will decide if he should be committed for an indefinite period.
