The Michigan State Police will host a hiring event Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center in Benton Harbor.

The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include the baseline fitness test and the entry-level law enforcement exam. Recruiters will also assist attendees with applications for MSP trooper and motor carrier officer positions.

Lt. DuWayne Robinson, public information officer for the Michigan State Police, said the agency has maintained steady enrollment in its recruit schools for the past four to five years, running two schools annually. He credited community outreach, marketing, and word-of-mouth for attracting applicants.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old before starting recruit school, have a clean driving record, and no felony convictions.

Robinson said the department is seeking “good-hearted people” from all backgrounds who want to engage with their communities and help keep the public safe.

“If you want to help your community and help fight crime and keep the public safe, and you want to do it with the best law enforcement, we believe, in the nation, we invite you to come to this hiring event.”

Pre-registration for the event is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Those attending should arrive early; anyone arriving after 10:30 a.m. will be unable to complete the testing. More information is available at michigan.gov/mspjobs under “hiring events.”
