Connie Louise Schaffer (Hendrix), born on August 14, 1944 to Wayne and Marie (De Mink) Schaffer, fell asleep to be with Jesus on August 8, 2025. Connie was a lifelong and devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and lived her life as a testimony to her faith. She was an instrumental volunteer on numerous Maranatha mission trips around the world, building hospitals, churches, clinics, schools, housing, and wells for drinking water for Indigenous communities.

Connie spent her adult life working beside her parents, building and managing nursing homes throughout Michigan, with a focus on providing Christ-centered care. Her compassion for caring led to a lifetime of learning as she served in many positions as Nurse, Nursing Home Administrator, Social Worker (MSW), and Professional Counselor. Her interests were vast, as she participated in South Haven’s Garden Club, Al-Van Humane Society fundraising, political advocacy, and scholarship development. She was a sought-after mentor to many graduate students and was the founder of a local grief support group for parents and children. Through a chance introduction by a business associate, Connie met and later married her true love, Harry Hendrix, in 1997. In retirement, they enjoyed frequent travels to international locations and U.S. national parks. She supported her daughters and loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She forged lifelong friendships with many, keeping close touch with childhood, church, and professional friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband Harry; daughters Christie Hendrix (Tyler Coleman); Laura (Scott) Vander Beek and grandchildren Colin and Mara; cousins Bob (Linda) Hoffman and Peggy (Steve) Spivey, along with many cherished friends, and her chosen sister Mona Hale. Connie’s heart was so full of love and joy that it constantly spilled out on the people who were lucky enough to surround her.

Visitation for Connie will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 11 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at Filbrandt Chapel 1076 S. Bailey Ave, South Haven, Michigan 49090. Pastor Dwight Nelson will officiate. Connie will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery.
