Michigan is seeing population growth not reported in decades. That’s according to Michigan’s chief growth officer, Hilary Doe, who says 67% of the state’s counties have experienced growth in the past year.

Doe says attracting and keeping young people in Michigan starts with making housing affordable.

We are targeting getting 115,000 new housing units online by this time next year and are very much on track for that,” Doe said. “That’s critical because you’ve got to get more stock in order to keep prices low.”

Doe says access to childcare is another important factor when it comes to attracting young people.

Doe says the state’s biggest cities, like Detroit and Flint, are seeing the biggest growth.
