A 73-year-old Cassopolis man is dead after a crash between his tractor and a pickup in Cass County on Wednesday.

Michigan State Police say it happened around 3:30 p.m. on Calvin Center Road near Calvin Hill Street in Calvin Township. Responding troopers learned a southbound pickup on Calvin Center Road crashed into the rear of a John Deere farm tractor traveling in the same direction.

The driver of the tractor was killed, while the driver of the pickup, a 36-year-old Marcellus man, suffered minor injuries. Passengers in the pickup also suffered minor injuries.

State police say distracted driving may have played a role in the crash.

The MSP’s Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson says drivers in rural Michigan should expect slow-moving farm vehicles this time of year and should obey the speed limit so they have time to react. The crash remains under investigation.
