Former Van Buren Co. official arrested for embezzlement

A former Van Buren County official has been arrested on charges of felony embezzlement.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) Fifth District Special Investigation Section announced the arrest of 42-year-old Rachel Celeste Lindley of Bethesda, Maryland, following an investigation that uncovered evidence she embezzled over $100,000 from various grants.

Lindley, who previously served as the Specialty Court Administrator for Van Buren County, was arraigned in the 7th District Court on Tuesday, August 5. She faces charges of felony embezzlement over $100,000 and felony embezzlement by a public official. Authorities say after her separation from the county, Lindley relocated to Maryland, where she currently resides and works.

The charge of embezzlement over $100,000 is a felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $50,000. Embezzlement by a public official is also a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
