Born on June 11, 1945, to Robert and Geneva “Maxine” (McWhirter) Russell, Sharon grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan. A proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1963, she was crowned first runner-up for Miss Benton Harbor during her senior year — a fitting recognition for someone known throughout her life for her beauty, poise, and radiant presence. On April 12, 1986, Sharon married the love of her life, Jerald Burger, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.

Sharon was a lifelong beautician whose elegance and class touched everyone she met. Her sense of style and grace left a lasting impression, and her warmth and wit made her the life of every gathering. Whether she was lovingly called “Cool Aunt Sharon” or the “Fun Grandma,” she had a special way of making everyone feel seen, loved, and welcome.

Family meant everything to Sharon. She cherished holidays surrounded by her loved ones, filling their hearts and homes with laughter — and their plates with her famous Texas sheet cake and cheesy potatoes. Her traditions and presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Sharon had a love for life’s simple joys: butterflies, roses, and the magic of old black-and-white films. Her spirit was joyful, her heart generous, and her smile unforgettable. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will continue to live on in all who knew her.

Sharon is survived by her husband Jerald Burger; daughter, Rhonda Fredricks; grandchildren, Jamie Pletz, Renee Talmadge, Rebecca Pletz; great-grandchildren, Landon, Katelynn, Makaylah, Kourtney, Rayelynn, and Peyton; brother, Terry Russell; niece, Erin Russell; nephew, Shaun Russell; lifelong friend, Loree Hocker; and stepchildren, Steven (Julie) Schlutt & family and Mark (Linda) Schlutt & family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Maxine; son, Bobby Burger; grandma, Gwendolyn Ritchie; and second husband, Millard Schlutt.
