East-west travel through Van Buren County will be a little difficult for the next several weeks as projects on both I-94 and Red Arrow Highway have reduced the number of traffic lanes available.
Van Buren County Road Commission Managing Director Bret Witkowski tells us work is now underway to rebuild Red Arrow Highway from the Van Buren County Youth Fairgrounds to the Hartford city limits. This has the road down to one lane.
Witkowski says once the $1.2 million project is finished, the road commission will finally be done with redoing Red Arrow Highway countywide after several years of work. Then it’ll be just about time to start over.
Witkowski says the project also involves the replacement of guardrails, making the road safer. It should be finished in about a month.
Meanwhile, Witkowski notes the Michigan Department of Transportation is also busy working on I-94 between Coloma and Watervliet, repaving the highway. That $31.7 million project has resulted in lane closures. He advises anyone driving through the area to be ready for delays.
