It turns out there are things you can do to keep your brain healthy and avoid getting Alzheimer’s disease.
A two-year clinical trial has tested two different lifestyle interventions of older adults at risk for cognitive decline. Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan Dementia Program Services Director Jean Barnas told us what they found that people can do to reduce their risk.
“They also added health monitoring to one of the groups,” Barnas said. “They looked at two different groups and they found that if you are doing all of these things over the two-year trial, that really some positive results showed that healthy behavior has a powerful impact on your brain health.”
More than 200,000 people in Michigan have Alzheimer’s, and seven million nationwide. Barnes lost her own mother to Alzheimer’s five years ago.
