Coloma Glad Peach Festival this weekend

Everyone’s invited to Coloma this weekend for two days of fun with the Coloma Glad Peach Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

Event President Jen Shier tells us they’ve got a packed lineup of activities for all ages, and of course, plenty of peaches and gladiolas. She says the festival started 58 years ago and has been going strong most of the years since. However, this year it almost didn’t happen. That’s until a new board was selected and Shier came on in May to get everything organized.

There was really nothing in the works besides, obviously the staples, but it’s been a lot of work,” Shier said.

And now Shier says the schedule includes a 5 and 10K run and walk, a parade, pony rides, face painting, a peach pit spit competition, a bake fest, a peach eating contest, axe throwing, live music, and a carnival. She says new this year are wristbands for unlimited rides at the carnival.

They can go and play the games as many times they want in there. Ride the Ferris wheel. There’s a climbing rock wall. There is the big jumbo slide. There’s an obstacle course. So, it’s ten dollars on our website right now and then the day of, they would be $15.”

There are also plenty of historical activities planned, like walking tours around Coloma and “A Visual History of Coloma” being presented at The Loma. And don’t forget the drone show, which will be held Saturday at dusk.
