A big festival honoring the Coast Guard is underway in Grand Haven this week.

There are concerts, parades, fireworks and street dancing for the Coast Guard Festival. Director Tracey Riley, who’s retired from the Coast Guard, says everyone should take a moment to thank the guard for what it does.

Very important to, not only for the fact that many people flock to the water and swim and boat in the summer and we’re there to help them or find them if they need be, but there’s a marine transportation that goes through the lakes that the Coast Guard regulates,” Riley said.

This is the 101st Coast Guard Festival and it runs through Sunday.
