Sheriff’s department jail bookings page gets upgrade

Anyone looking for information on an inmate at the Berrien County Jail now has an expanded resource for doing so, thanks to recent upgrades to the jail bookings webpage operated by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Previously, it was possible to use the page to see who was booked at the jail on a given day and on what charges. Now, Berrien County Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us you can search by name.

They upgraded the search tool, but we also thought it was important to still be able to do it by date,” Heit said. “So there are two ways on the website to be able to find it. If you know the name, going to the search right away is pretty easy to use.And then some people still like to search by the date.”

You can also get an inmate’s mugshot and information on scheduling a visit.

Heit says a lot of people use this website.

We’ve got other people work-wise, maybe probation parole officers, who will check on a daily basis just to see who may have been arrested. So it’s used a lot.”

In fact, Heit says the jail bookings page is the second most visited page of the Berrien County website, after only the Silver Beach camera.

The site lost some functionality for several months while upgrades were being implemented, but Heit says it’s back in good, working order again. He says it’s all about transparency.
