Rosemarie Franziska (Friesl) Kilgore, a person of immense kindness and courage, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 80. Born on March 13, 1945, in Passau, Germany, to the late Franz and Franziska Friesl, Rose carried the spirit of her homeland in her heart as she made the courageous journey to America as a teenager. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Rose’s life was a testament to the power of hard work and the beauty of a generous spirit. She dedicated her time to serving others, embodying the phrase, “To know her was to love her.” No matter the challenges she faced, Rose always greeted the world with a smile, her kindness and compassion never wavering. Her love for her family was boundless, and she took great joy in her role as an adored Oma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a loving family: Michael (Lynne) Kilgore, Nia (Michael) Mulligan, Steven ( Amie) Kilgore and Jim (Pam) Kilgore; six cherished grandchildren; and three precious great-grandchildren. Rose was the last surviving sibling of her family, predeceased by her brothers, Kurt, Erich, Rudolf, and Franz Friesl, and her sister, Josefine Friesl.
Rose’s passion for life extended to her interests. She was happiest when feeding and serving others, often found in the kitchen preparing meals that were as much a feast for the soul as they were for the body. Her love for her family and friends was the centerpiece of her existence, and the warmth of her home was a reflection of her loving heart.
Described by those who knew her as loving, selfless, and courageous, Rose’s character was the embodiment of the quote, “What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal,” by Albert Pike. Her impact on the world was profound, and the ripples of her kindness will continue to spread far and wide.
