This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, and an iconic U.P. brand is raising funds and awareness for the occasion.
Stormy Kromer is announcing a limited edition Edmund Fitzgerald cap, with CEO Gina Jacquart Thorsen telling us how it came to be.
“We did some research and found a group out of Superior, Wisconsin, called Friends of the Fitz, who had started an effort to ensure that there was a permanent historical marker in Superior, which was the Edmund Fitzgerald’s last port of call, and that there was something there memorializing the event,” Thorsen said. “And we found out that they were raising money for an official state marker and that those things are quite expensive.”
The hat retails for $60, $20 of which will go toward Friends of the Fitz. They will be on sale at StormyKromer.com through August 10.
