Coming soon to the South Haven Theater Series will be Winston Churchill, or at least an actor portraying him.
Theater Series Board President Mary Sue Lyon tells us on August 16, actor Randy Otto will bring “Winston Churchill: The Blitz” to the Listiak Theater. This will be Otto’s second visit to South Haven playing Churchill.
“It will be a two-act, one-man play that portrays Winston Churchill in one night during the London blitz in 1940,” Lyon said.
Lyon says Otto plays Churchill full-time all over the country.
We noticed the last theater series performance featured an actress playing Lucille Ball, and Lyon told us it’s no coincidence the series welcomes such one-person shows.
“They need to be fairly modest in the number of crew or actors in the performance and also the amount of staging that’s required. So we have found that the one-person portrayals of famous people has been a real draw for our audience.”
Randy Otto’s portrayal of Churchill has won the praises of Churchill’s great grandson, Jonathan Sandys, who said, “Randy does not attempt to be Winston Churchill; Randy IS Winston Churchill.”
The show at the Listiak Auditorium will start at 7:30 on August 16 and tickets are $15 for adults. You can get them at the door or online. You can find out more right here.
