The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has honored Financial Services Director Doug James as he nears retirement.

James is responsible for managing the county’s budget and has been doing so since October of 2009. He retires this week.

Commissioners on Thursday approved a resolution saluting James for his services and commending his work. Commissioner Bob Harrison read from it.

He has utilized his background in finance and accounting to secure Bering County’s good financial position that we are currently in,” Harrison read. “And whereas in his 15 years and nine months employment here, he has demonstrated adaptability and resilience in the face of challenges that he and his team have overcome.”

James first came to Berrien County to work for Whirlpool.

Commissioners said they appreciate he’ll still be around after retirement to offer some extra help. County Administrator Brian Dissette said the county will hire a consulting group to help in the financial services office while looking for a replacement for James.
