Fire at St. Joseph commercial facility results in $250k+ damage

Several area fire crews responded to a call Tuesday evening at Hoffman Diecast on Kerth Street in St. Joseph. 

Officials say the call came in just after 8 pm. Employees were evacuated and crews found fire on the inside and on the roof of the factory. Responders were able to knock down the fire inside and sent a team to the roof to extinguish that part of the blaze. 

Officials say the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and no injuries were reported. Damages are estimated at a minimum of $250,000.

Responding agencies included St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, Benton Charter Township Fire Department, St. Joseph Charter Township Fire Department Station #2, Lincoln Charter Township Firefighters, St. Joseph Township Police Department, and Medic 1 Ambulance.
