A lifelong farmer, educator, and community leader, Ed’s legacy is one of unwavering commitment, integrity, and service.
Ed devoted much of his life to both the land and the classroom. The majority of his 35-year teaching career was at St. Joseph MI Schools where Ed taught Industrial Arts and Social Studies. He was known as a tough but fair teacher who left a lasting impact on generations of students. Many former students still proudly keep the metal toolboxes they crafted in his class—a tangible reminder of his dedication to hands-on learning and life-long skills.
Beyond the classroom, Ed was a respected figure in Michigan’s agricultural community. He held leadership roles in the National Grape Society and served as President of the Michigan Grape Society. His commitment to public service extended further as he served as a trustee for Oronoko Township and as a member of the Berrien Springs School Board. Ed was also a lifelong member of Farm Bureau and an active member of the St. Joseph Elks Club.
Ed was deeply rooted in family. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary; sons Edwin Jr. (Tina), Marc, and Brian (Kathy); grandchildren Megan, Mitchell (Emily Carol), Emily, Owen, Zachary, Alyssa, and Michaela; and great-grandchildren Mason and Liam. He is also survived by his sister Jean Ann (Marvin), niece Carrie, and nephew Jon. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
Ed was a steady presence and a strong voice in his community. His life’s work—whether in the classroom, the vineyard, or the boardroom—touched countless lives. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
