She was born on April 12, 1981, in Chicago, IL, to Melvin Porter and Dian Branscumb. Shanika was a vibrant individual who cherished her roles as a wife and mother. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she also made an impact as a motivational speaker and content creator.
Shanika and Bilal Jones tied the knot on July 28, 2001, in Benton Harbor, MI. She cherished her marriage and was a wonderful blessing to Bilal and their family.
Shanika leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Bilal Jones Sr.; daughter, Kalilah Jones; sons: Bilal (Dayzhanique Crowley) Jones Jr, Jaykob Jones, and Kawhi Jones; sisters: Sparkle Young, Lakeisha Porter and Melanie Porter; brothers: Micah Nelson, Chevel Nelson and Terrance Porter; granddaughter, Zolahni Carol Jones; auntie, Rochell (Nathen) Burton; niece, Tiora Young; nephews, Derico Butler, Demeir Hill, Juan Young, Tiyon Young, and Kasey Nelson; uncle; Joddie Williams; father figure, Michael Howard; cousins; Ann Mavin and Nicole Burton; a host of family and friends.
Shanika was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin Porter and Dian Branscumb; daughter: Akeeliah J. Jones.
