Eugene’s life began April 18, 1932, in Benton Harbor, Michigan on the family farm. Eugene was blessed with 93 years living on his favorite piece of land. He was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School. Eugene worked as a truck driver hauling steal for most of his life but his passion was farming his family’s property. He was a member of the Salvation Army where he learned to play the trumpet. Eugene loved music, not only playing his trumpet but also serving as music director at his church.

 

Eugene’s greatest love was his family who he leaves behind to cherish his memory including: his wife of 50 years Linda (Dietz) Poziwilko; three children Terrance (Luann) Sandmire, Jody (Tim) Sutherland, Michael (Sarah) Poziwilko; seven grandchildren Trever (Sydney) Sutherland, Lauren McGuire, Brittany Garza, Ryan Sandmire, Olivia Sutherland, Naudia Cuchinski, Lillianne Joy Poziwilko; six great grandchildren Mason, Freya, Oalkey, Mia, Melanie, and Oliver; two brothers Pat (Shirley) Poziwilko and Dan Poziwilko; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Eugene died Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Hanson Hospice Center surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Laurel (Badgley) Poziwilko and his siblings Don, Bob, Yvonne, Our Aunt Jo, and Dewayne.

 

Eugene’s family has entrusted Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet to assist them with cremation and they will celebrate his life Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Lifegate Baptist Church in Eau Claire, Michigan.
