The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has given the green light to a trail project being planned by Lincoln Township.

At its meeting this week, the board approved a construction contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation for a non-motorized, shared use path along South Roosevelt Road from Hidden Pines Road to Maquette Woods Road. The work will include asphalt, a modular block wall, curb ramps, a boardwalk, a pedestrian bridge, landscaping, and signage.

The board of commissioners resolution says the project’s cost will be $1.8 million with federal funds covering just under $1.5 million and the rest coming from Lincoln Township and to be handled by the Berrien County Road Department.

Since MDOT will handle the construction, bids will be managed by them, and since the funding for the trail is being passed through the county road department, commissioners had to sign off on it.

The project will come at no cost to the county.
