Jon Alan Watson, Sr ,78, devoted son, brother, loving husband of 60 years, proud father of 2 children and grandfather of 4, of South Haven, MI, died suddenly on 7/13/2025.

He was born in Allegan, MI on 8/13/1946 to Don and Florence. Jon enlisted in the Army in September 1964. He served proudly for 23 years, including two tours in Vietnam with 4th Infantry and 11th Infantry, rising from PFC to LTC. Throughout his career, he received many awards including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service medal, Army Commendation Medal, American Spirit Honor Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm. For his second act, he fell in love with teaching and spent 20 years teaching High School English and Social Studies.

Jon was a devoted and loving father to Christy and Jon, Jr, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. He was also a tremendously loving, supportive and proud grandfather of 4 grandsons, who made him proud every day.

Jon was preceded in death by Don Watson Sr (Father), Florence Mae Watson (Mother), Don Watson Jr (Brother), Peggy Watson (Sister), Linda Watson (Sister in law) and is survived by his wife, Cheri Lee Watson; his daughter, Christy(Robert) Kubon; his son, Jon (Amy) Watson Jr; his brother, James (Patricia) Watson; his brother in law, Ted (Robin) Brindley; his sister in laws, Nancy Mohler and Judy Watson; his grandsons, Jonathan, Tyler and Matthew Watson and Robert Kubon, Jr; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Filbrandt Chapel, 1076 S. Bailey Ave, South Haven, Michigan, 49090 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Jon will be laid to rest on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, Michigan, 49012 at 1 p.m. Pastor Eric Jarvis will Officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Tunnels for Towers or Wounded Warrior Project.
