
Law enforcement say they are investigating a murder that occurred Saturday night in Dowagiac.
Dowagiac Police say they were dispatched at approximately 9:23 PM to the area of Cherry Street near Halstead Street on a report of shots fired. While investigating, officers were advised that a subject had just been brought to Ascension Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds.
According to police, officers were advised that there was a verbal altercation between two subjects who were attending a party in the area. One of the subjects drew a gun and fired several shots striking the victim and he then fled the scene. The victim ran from the area and was picked up by friends who transported him to the hospital. The victim, a 19-year-old man from Benton Harbor, died from his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The person of interest named by police is Demorrio Maurice Lowes.
The investigation has determined a person of interest in this incident. The person of interest is 24-year-old Demorrio Maurice Lowes of Cassopolis, Michigan. Dowagiac Police request anyone with knowledge of Mr. Lowe’s whereabouts to contact police.
