New Heights CCDA is planning to hold its second annual New Heights Resource Fair at its Benton Heights Laundry Hub on August 2.

New Heights Operations Director Chris Craig tells us they’ll be hosting community organizations that provide assistance to residents there at the hub on Red Arrow Highway so people nearby can learn about what’s available to them.

So many people, they don’t have cars, they don’t have transportation,” Craig said. “It’s really hard for them to get to these resources. So we like to bring it to them and to a variety of people that will be there. From Corewell Health, Life Plan, Michigan Works to help them with jobs and things like that.”

Other organizations on hand will be the Area Agency on Aging, Legal Aid, Celebrate Recovery, Sew Blessed, Flowers Early Learning, Present Pillars, the Benton Harbor Public Library, and Great River Federal Credit Union. Craig says it can be hard for Benton Heights residents to visit those organizations on their own.

They had a good turnout for last year’s resource fair.

I think last year, which is our first year doing it, we probably had about sixty something people show up and we’re going to push the advertising more out by Benton Heights, so we’re hoping for more.”

Craig says people in Benton Heights often need help with transportation, healthcare, jobs, and substance abuse treatment. All of those things will be represented at the fair.

The New Heights Resource Fair will be August 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the laundry hub at 2121 Red Arrow Highway. Everyone’s welcome.
