Much of Michigan’s 90,000 mile county road network is in needed of serious repairs. That’s according to the latest report from the County Road Association.

Ed Noyola, association chief deputy and legislative director, says these short-term fixes are not cutting it.

A third of our infrastructure needs an extensive repair, something beyond a five-year repair,” Noyola said. “You’re looking at 10, maybe 15 to 20-year fixes.”

And it’s happening too slowly because of a lack of funding. Between 2023 and 2024, less than 1% of additional improvements were made.

Noyola said Lansing knows they need to fund the roads and as long as it happens, he doesn’t have a preference on how they do it.
