Huizenga: ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ starts to rightsize federal spending

Congressman Bill Huizenga says the “Big, Beautiful Bill” approved by Congress last week will ensure that major tax cuts approved in 2017 aren’t rolled back while helping to rightsize the nation’s budget.

Huizenga tells us while the real appropriations work on the 2026 fiscal year budget will begin next week, the reconciliation bill from last week helps avoid tax increases Americans otherwise would have faced and will reduce fraud in programs like Medicaid.

Responding to claims that millions will lose their healthcare under the bill, Huizenga says he has trouble understanding why Democrats would want to maintain a status quo that involves people routinely ripping off the government.

“If you’re drawing medical coverage in multiple states, that’s called fraud,” Huizenga said. “That’s not that compassion, that’s fraud. If you’ve got the ability to go get a job — because there’s plenty of jobs that are out there and available — but you are choosing not to do that or not go get educated, how is that good for them, much less good for society?”

Huizenga says an able-bodied person who can work should either get a job, get in school, or volunteer if they want to keep getting those benefits.

“Really, that’s going to be a help to the economy as well. It’s about making sure that we get people who are able to go work up off the couch and onto a payroll.”

Huizenga adds illegal migrants are also claiming Medicaid.

In addition to slimming down Medicaid, Huizenga tells us there are several other new provisions in the Big, Beautiful Bill that will benefit working people. For example, he says those who buy an American-made car will now be able to deduct the interest on their loan, and the bill eliminates taxes on tips. Of course, that provision expires in 2028, at the end of President Trump’s term.

Huizenga says while the Senate watered down some of the cuts from the House and he would have preferred more, the Big Beautiful Bill is an overall win for the country.
