A new Michigan State University study looks at how people judge tattoos.
What the study has found is that people often get it wrong. Co-author William Chopik, associate professor in the MSU Department of Psychology, told us how people misread what a tattoo says about a person.
“People think they’re really risky, like they take a lot of risks,” Chopik said. “Some think that they’re really unfriendly. Some people think that they’re degenerates or do break the law. But in reality, when studies were actually looked at people with tattoos, it looks like they don’t have any of those characteristics.”
Chopik has found people tend to rate the personalities consistently, but the perception isn’t an indicator of what their true personality really is.
The study was published in the Journal of Research in Personality.
