The Lincoln Township Board of Trustees has held a second and final reading on the rezoning of property along Red Arrow Highway to make way for a new 200-unit apartment complex.

The development is being planned for the site of the former Snow Flake Motel, at 3822 Red Arrow Highway. Great Lakes Capital out of South Bend is planning the complex with an eye on helping the area ease its attainable housing crunch.

Lincoln Township Supervisor Glenn Youngstedt tells us trustees this week approved rezoning two parcels — one at 3822 Red Arrow Highway, and the other with no address on Lake Pines Drive — from mixed use commercial to high density residential.

The next step is the Planned Unit Development, and that’s going through the process right now,” Youngstedt said. “That will come up at the August board meeting. And we may have something before then.”

Did anyone oppose the rezoning at Tuesday’s meeting?

No, no. I think we’re in unanimous agreement on that one.”

The proposed apartment complex would offer units of varying sizes with rents that could start as low as $900 per month in the smallest ones. If all goes well, the complex could be ready for residents to move in next year.
