There’s good news and bad news from a 52-year study of the heart health of adults conducted by the American Heart Association.
The good news is that deaths from heart attacks dropped 90% from the numbers posted back in 1970, when the study began. The bad news is that deaths from heart failure and hypertension rose 81% over that same stretch.
Henry Ford Health’s Dr. Herbert Aronow told us how adults can reduce that alarming rise in deaths.
“I would encourage people to stay active,” Aronow said. “I’d like people to get up off the couch. There’s no excuse this time of the year. It’s really important that people get that time in. The American Heart Association, as an example, recommends about 150 minutes a week of moderate activity. I support that as well.”
Aronow says there are other dietary recommendations that could help. You can learn more at the American Heart Association website.
