A public meeting is set for July 17 for everyone to learn more about plans to reconstruct Red Arrow Highway in Lake Township this summer.

Berrien County Road Department spokesperson Adri Boone tells us the work will start on July 21 on Red Arrow Highway from the Bridgman city limits to about 1,000 feet south of the Cook nuclear power plant.

That road project will result in roadway resurfacing,” Boone said. “It’ll address a lot of the conditions that are existing there with some drainage and other sloping related activities, but we will present that information fully during that public meeting.”

Boone says the road will be brought down to three travel lanes, as has been done with Red Arrow Highway at points to the south. When it’s all finished, there will be one lane in each direction with a center turn lane and a trail along the side of the road.

There’s more work planned for Red Arrow Highway next year.

We’re slowly, slowly working our way through all of Red Arrow Highway. It’s definitely a vast system and network. As we move from one segment, we continue to move to another segment, so soon here at the road will be in good shape from all county maintained segments.”

Boone says they’ll work on the road from the Cook plant north to Stevensville in 2026. In the meantime, the meeting for everyone to ask questions about the Bridgman-to-Cook Plant project will be July 17 at 6 p.m. at the Lake Township Hall.

The meeting will also be recorded and uploaded to the road department’s website for those who can’t make it in person.
