Part of US-12 to close through August

Drivers in south Berrien County are going to have a traffic headache to deal with for the next few months.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says a project along seven miles of US-12, from the Galien Township and Bertrand Township line to Mayflower Road, starts Tuesday, July 8. As a result, US-12 will be closed and detoured for culvert replacements. The detour will take drivers down Gardner Road, Galien Buchanan Road, and Bakertown Road.

The change takes effect Tuesday and will remain in place through August 28.

The closure about to start is a result of a $9.1 million investment in US-12 that will include asphalt repaving and shoulder widening, intersection rebuilding, drainage improvements, guardrail replacement, and pavement markings.
