There’s good news for anyone interested in enrolling in the truck driving program at Lake Michigan College.
LMC Vice President of Enrollment, Marketing, and Governmental Relations Al Pscholka tells us the LMC Foundation has decided to put up some support for students in that program, along with a few others.
“Truck driving, marine technician,” Pscholka said. “These are programs that do not qualify for traditional financial aid. And the Lake Michigan College Foundation is setting up a $100,000 fund to fund scholarships for those activities.”
Pscholka says there are plenty of potential students that never enroll in the truck driving program because they can’t find aid.
“We’ve got a lot of interest in truck driving. There’s a lot of openings for truck drivers. You can make up to $80,000, $85,000 right out of the gate in a three to six week program, but there’s no traditional financial aid. Now there will be.”
Pscholka says the news comes just as LMC is “growing like crazy.” He says the college has nearly 1,000 students now enrolled in summer classes, a 30% increase.
The new scholarship for previously unsupported programs is another way for the college to attract even more students.
