The Center for Growth and Independence is planning its annual softball fundraiser for later this month.
The center’s Tami Gould tells us they’ll be at Plangger’s Park in Benton Harbor on July 25 and 26 playing a loose form of the game.
“It’s not your typical fundraiser,” Gould said. “Although we do play softball, kind of, we bribe the umps for the outs and the wins and the home runs and bouncing on a ball throughout the bases. So it’s all about fun, raising some money for the people that we serve.”
The goal is to raise $20,000. Sponsorships are still available, and Gould says anyone interested in playing should check the center’s website.
The Center for Growth and Independence supports Southwest Michigan residents living with disabilities, as well as their families. It offers help securing community living, semi-independent living, employment, and respite care. They’ve served thousands in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren county since 1972.
