Child social workers were honored Thursday in Lansing.
The professionals who help to reunify parents and kids in the child welfare system were the focus of the 2025 Reunification Day, which also honored those families. Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh of the Michigan Supreme Court said there are many immediate but temporary needs that some parents face.
“So it’s families who have maybe lost a job or are battling a mental health or a substance abuse issue and therefore aren’t able to be the parents that they wanna be and that their kids need them to be,” Cavanagh said.
The goal is to get the parents help back on their feet and reunited with their kids when it’s safe.
Thursday’s event featured awards for exemplary service and leadership in family preservation and reunification efforts.
