Those on weight loss drugs more likely to suffer dehydration

Users of appetite suppression drugs need to take extra precautions in the heat.

GLP-1 medications, like Ozempyc, can take away your hunger and thirst, leading to dehydration.

Dr. Robert Moore from Corewell Internal Medicine said this can cause extra problems for those who are on the medication because of diabetes. Those patients have less options on how to stay hydrated.

Patients have to watch how much sugar they intake,” Moore said. “So if you’re taking something like Gatorade, Pedialyte, those are very heavy in sugar. And so sometimes if they take in too much sugar, even if they’re dehydrated, it can spike their blood sugar and that can cause other issues.”

Fatigue, dizziness, and light headedness are signs you’re dehydrated.

Moore says to call your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms.
