Benson grilled by lawmakers

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democratic candidate for governor, was on the hot seat this week before the House Oversight Committee.

Benson answered questions about the MiTN portal, which House Republicans say has obstructed transparency around campaign fundraising and lobbyist spending.

I hope for being here today is that we’re available to answer questions to all of you and on all fronts, but also that we can work together because we can actually make this even better than before by working together and collaborating in a data-driven, solution-oriented way,” Benson said.

One Republican lawmaker asked Benson if she wanted to apologize for the rough start to the system, the rollout for her campaign from a taxpayer funded building, or that she has more unfavorable lawsuit losses. She did not apologize for anything.

Benson said her track record speaks for itself.
