June Noel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 76. June began her journey at Sparrow Hospital in Landing, Michigan on June 26, 1948 and was the second of six children born to Catherine and Richard Austin. Her early life etched storied memories shared with her siblings Jane Christine (Terry), Jim (Barbara), Jon (Lori), Julie Vanderwater (Brett), and her late brother Jay (Debbie).
June’s life was marked by deep devotion to family. She was a proud mother to two children, Ryan Noel (Jennifer) and Katherine Kondak (Scott), both of Wheaton, Illinois, and adored her five grandchildren: Aiden, Logan and Teagan Noel, and Rowan and Liam Kondak. Becoming a grandmother allowed June to experience the delight of childhood all over again, and she treasured every moment she spent spoiling them. June also cherished her 14 nieces and nephews.
From her earliest years, June showed a bright, joyful spirit that would carry her through a life marked by compassion, hard work and sincere friendships. She won many honors in 4-H and spent her childhood creating what would become deep, lifelong bonds with her siblings.
The heart of June’s life, however, was her love story with her high school sweetheart, Kelly Noel. They attended their first dance together as freshmen at Mason County Central High School in Scottville, Michigan, and began dating in the 10th grade. Despite attending different colleges (June at Michigan State University, where she graduated with honors, and Kelly at Western Michigan University), their bond never wavered. After years of weekend visits and long-distance love, they married on June 27, 1970, just after college graduation, beginning 54 beautiful years of marriage.
Together, June and Kelly built a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose. In 1977, they welcomed their first child Ryan, followed by their daughter Katie in 1986. To June, her children were the shining stars of her life and she always considered them her best accomplishment.
June dedicated 37 years of her life to teaching Language Arts at Coloma Public Schools. Her passion for education and her students was unmatched; she tirelessly graded papers late into the night and took immense pride in her students’ growth and success. Even years after retirement, profound influence she had on their lives.
After retiring, June brought her energetic personality to a new venture, selling Silpada Jewelry, and doing so with her usual success and sparkle. She also maintained her love of fitness, continuing to run regularly and stay active.
Furthermore, June found endless pleasure in reading, especially after retirement, often devouring four books a week. Her favorite place to read was at the beach, with the sun, sand and music as her companions.
As the life of the party, June brought light and energy wherever she went. She loved to dance, to shop, to laugh, and above all, to be with her family. Her passion for people was contagious, whether celebrating with friends, encouraging her children, inspiring her students, or talking to her best friend Kelly. June and Kelly’s 54 year marriage was an enduring example of love and devotion, filled with affection, humor, and the kind of connection that will only exist in fairy tales.
June’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and she leaves behind a world made better by her presence. Her legacy of love, humor, and joy will continue through the lives she touched. We are so grateful for the time we had with June, and she will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Waterfront in Coloma. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Online guestbook available at www.duffieldpastrick.com. Memorial donations in June’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
