South Haven fixing sidewalk issues caused by water line replacements

The city of South Haven is working to address issues caused with sidewalks as a result of recent water line work around the community.

Like cities across Michigan, South Haven has been replacing lead water service lines. It says following those projects and recent heavy rain, small holes and low spots have appeared in many places due to soil compaction. Some of those areas now require follow-up work to ensure the sidewalks are safe.

The city is now working with 5 Star Construction and says crews are out and about filling in affected areas with topsoil. It’s part of an ongoing effort to stabilize the ground, promote healthy turf regrowth, and make the sidewalks easier to use.

The city says it appreciates everyone’s understanding and tells residents with questions to contact the South Haven Department of Public Works.
