Lighting repairs, upgrades planned at Silver Beach County Park

Some upgrades are coming to the lighting at Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph.

Speaking to colleagues this week, Berrien County Commissioner Jim Curran said the administration committee has heard form Parks Director Jill Adams there’s a need to replace some walkway and entrance lights. Because that creates liability concerns, replacement of the lights has jumped to the front of its capital projects list.

So to fund this project, they are proposing eliminating — and this comes off the deferred maintenance list — of deferring and not doing fence repairs to the historical complex, upgrades to the security line to Madeline Bertrand, or the site lighting at Love Creek.”

All of those other items will be bumped back.

Director Adams tells us while the walkway and entrance lights are out, upgrades to the beach lighting have been on the priorities list for a while, so the parks department is now able to start that work at the same time. Therefore, there will soon be improved lighting for those who walk down by the beach later in the day.
