This is Cancer Survivor Month, and to bring awareness, experts say it’s common for some patients to have survivor’s guilt or depression or anxiety.
Dr. Dan Baffa with the American College of Surgeons says we’ve come a long way with treatments and there’s one that has proven to save lives.
“We’re not there yet,” Boffa said. “I don’t want to be misleading, but we have made so many gains. If you want to save somebody’s life, have them be screened for lung cancer if they’re eligible.”
Boffa says that getting a yearly CT scan if you’re over 50 and have smoked reduces the chances of dying of lung cancer by 20%.
