Set for next Saturday, June 14 is the 44th annual Michigan Maritime Museum Antique and Classic Boat Show.

Museum Education Director Ashley Deming tells us the event will welcome boat enthusiasts, collectors, woodworkers, and families to celebrate historic small craft. There will be all kinds of things to see.

Lots of wooden crafts from Chris Crafts or Hackers,” Deming said. “We’ve got a cabin cruiser this year. We’ve even got an amphibious automobile that will be there this year, which is kind of exciting.”

Deming says the watercraft on display are brought in from all over so people can learn a bit about Great Lakes maritime history.

A wide variety of different small craft to be able to enjoy and talk to a lot of the exhibitors there, many of which have done a lot of the restoration work for these vessels and care on their own. So that’s always wonderful to hear these stories, and that’s really what it’s all about for the museum.”

Deming says the boat show also will include toy ship building for kids. Plus, they’ll have Taqueria Y Mariscos El Primo serving up authentic Mexican fare, including street tacos and Mexican Coca Cola.

Admission to the boat show will be free with admission to the museum, which is $10, or free to museum members.

Deming notes the Antique and Classic Boat Show is also being held at the same time as South Haven Harborfest, so those who attend can then head over to downtown South Haven for a whole second round of fun.
