A Michigan House committee has approved the “Taylor Swift Bills,” banning the use of bots to buy tickets online.
The legislation is a response to Swift’s concerts at Ford Field being sold out in minutes and many fans getting priced out.
State Representative Mike McFall helped write the bill. He says everyone knows the frustration of waiting to buy tickets just for them to be gone in an instant.
“I think we’ve all experienced when we’re trying to buy tickets and you log in and all of a sudden like in 30 seconds and the whole thing is sold out,” McFall said. “What’s happening is the bots come in and they start snatching up tickets left and right.”
McFall says the bills would empower the Attorney General to investigate consumer complaints on ticket sales and provide clear penalties.
