Caring Connection of Benton Harbor will hold a fundraiser this month as the organization continues to struggle with funding uncertainty.

Caring Connection CEO Robin McGinnis tells us the second annual Summer Solstice Party will be June 20 at DayDreamer Domes in South Haven. She says it’ll be a great chance for everyone to have a relaxing evening for a good cause.

Hopefully the weather will be good, but we have a swimming pool, we have raffles, we have all kinds of vendors who are coming to do kind of relaxation and kind of off the beaten path kind of events, vendors,” McGinnis said.

Caring Connection operates the women’s domestic abuse shelter in Benton Harbor, support services for vulnerable seniors, and support for victims of violence. McGinnis tells us Summer Solstice will specifically raise money for the organization’s South Haven program.

“Which is an adult day program, and it’s for people primarily with dementia. We run this program, it’s 15 clients that we can serve and it’s an intergenerational program, which means that we work with a child care center. We’re actually located in Youth Development Company.”

McGinnis says the future of the senior dementia program is in doubt because many of those served are on Medicare and Medicaid. Meanwhile, she says Caring Connection is having trouble budgeting for its other programs, which in one way or another, often receive federal dollars via the state.

Anyone who wants to help raise a little money locally for Caring Connection is invited to the Summer Solstice Party. Tickets are $25 in advance, and you can get them right here.
