Renovations are taking place at the concessions area at Silver Beach County Park, although they may be completed a little behind the original schedule.
Wally and Gertz at Silver Beach owner Anne Reitz tells us plans to fix up the concessions area actually go back to before 2012, when she got the contract to manage concessions at the park. After multiple delays over the years and a snag with the city of St. Joseph earlier this year, the permits are in place, and work is now happening.
“We’ve got some tables that we’re going to be putting out, some sun shades for 12 new tables, some sun shades, some lights, some music,” Reitz said. “So it’s going to be a cute fun – We painted it. It’s going to be great. It’s so cute right now.”
Reitz says tariffs have delayed some of the materials for additional work, but it’s still going on.
“Weekly our stuff is arriving. So next week our poles are going up. Couple weeks after that our sunshades will be in. The tables will be in in two weeks. So probably by, hopefully by 4th of July, we’re hoping to see the whole thing come back together.”
Reitz says the concrete for many of the improvements is already poured. Now it’s a matter of getting materials. She adds there will also be an open space on the concessions building so passersby can see that there are things for sale. Right now, the stand only opens toward the lake.
With the new playground open, the concessions improvements are expected to really spruce up that area of the park. Also, you can now see one concessions-related improvement: the oversized Michigan-shaped chair now stationed at the beach.
