Thousands of flowers were cut at the Matthai Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum at the University of Michigan over the weekend.
Garden Director Tony Kolenic posted about the vandalism on the University of Michigan Facebook page, saying peonies were destroyed.
“What happened here was an act of disregard, not just for the garden, but for the community, and really to life itself as living beings,” Kolenic said. “Yet, this is a resilient garden. It will bloom. It will be fine. The roots endure and they’re strong. Our community is strong.”
No one has claimed responsibility for the vandalism, but leaflets were left behind, saying quote, “Palestinian lives deserve to be cared for more than these flowers.”
