State leaders at the Mackinac Policy Conference this week are tackling the challenge of making home ownership affordable.
On the front porch of the Grand Hotel Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist announced a joint public and private investment to build 2,500 affordable homes statewide over the next decade.
“I’m excited about Michigan’s future, where people can afford to live anywhere in our beautiful state and know that it is a place where they can build their economic future, where they can, their kids can go to a school that’s well supported, where they can retire with dignity and all their money in their pocket,” Gilchrist said. “Doing so with that confidence is what makes Michigan an amazing place to live, an amazing place to have an idea.”
The plan involves a partnership between Allen Edwin Homes and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
Gilchrist also announced a more than $100 million commitment to improving Michigan’s workforce infrastructure.
